Troy

A handsome 2 year old Harlequin Great Dane (already named Troy) with one blue eye and one brown eye found his way into the lively family last week. We were not looking for a dog, he just happened, and he is the most obedient dog we have ever had, ever. This boy knows many, many commands, has tons of energy and already thinks he is one of our offspring. I think it was love at first sight for Holly and Troy.

He was initially iffy around the kids, did not know what to think of them but it only took an afternoon for him to decide that they were his ticket to fun and for them to learn how to handle him. In the week he has been with us, he has been in many situations that were perfect ways for us to test him - he submitted to our three old dogs when they told him who is boss around here, we have had men come over to help us move furniture in preparation for our new carpet, he has been out on may walks/runs and is super on a leash, we have had workmen here installing flooring, a baby came to stay the night, and he has met many of our friends and family, all new to him, without doing one stupid thing.

We have Milly to thank for him. She heard about him and decided to check him out. After spending some time with him, she realized that he was probably a better fit for us. With his previous owner, he apparently had some separation anxiety issues, did not get enough exercises and attention and was destroying her house since she is a nursing student and never home. He will not have that problem with us. We just started leaving him alone and he has been great so far - no destructive behavior.

We are all excited to have Troy in our home. He is an action-packed dog who actually listens better than Evy and Reed have been lately. He is my new running partner, and he has two kids that love to throw the ball for him (and he even retrieves). He is an alert protector, cheap security and garden tiller (this was funny yesterday *before* his bath). He blows bubbles with his nose in mud puddles, he runs our backyard like is a racetrack and he plays hard. We love having an active dog. We still love our needy, mostly deaf old ladies too, but Troy has reminded us of what having a young, active dog is like.
